Kowloon Walled City

the beauty of human and urban spaces

logged on to facebook this morning and this popped up on my newsfeed.

not only was i astound by the articulate depth within the details but also the narration expressed through characters dispersed throughout the drawing.

Hong Kong the Safe Haven

work, family, love.

its always one of those reasons that drive people to this city. The longer I stay here, the more people I meet who all left their previous countries to start a life here. My hat particularly tips to the individuals who came here because of love. Unfortunately there are none that I have met whose reason remains valid anymore. They are left here to make something out of nothing. Thankfully its not difficult to establish a new life here…there is a massive english speaking population and basic living requirements cane be easily met.

My reason?
80:20, family:work

I didnt come here for family, I came here to leave family. Long story short, i needed to get away from for my own emotional health. But being a big baby, I didnt have the courage to place myself in a city where I was completely alone. I needed to be somewhere where I knew someone who I can contact in case of any emergencies. And so here I am. o and of course job opportunities here are much better than back home in Vancouver.

No matter who I talk to, people end up being in this city because of a certain reason. There isnt anyone I met that came here initially because they loved this place. But Hong Kong does have its beauty which most of us discover and become accustomed to after settling down. its filled with excitment and opportunities, prosperity and creativity. It opens doors for dreamers, it opens windows for developers.

Just keep gymming, just keep gymming

soooo ecstatic to say that I dropped another pound! yahooooo

im back at my best progress weight last autumn…except now I have muscle whereas back then I havent started lifting yet.

though I know weight cannot determine much about how your body is, it does help keep track of one’s progress. to me the feeling of becoming stronger and healthier is my focus. I do not starve myself. I dont believe I diets. like I said in the previous entry,  I believe in making healthy choices. stronger, leaner, healthier, happier. those are my focus.

I cant emphasize enough how much the people around you can make such a difference to your progress. I was again talking to one of the regulars tonight, discussing work locations. apparently she travels from the midsouth of hk island…to come to our gym (which is located on the west side)…and then travels home back to the east.
holy moses. dedication right there.
i asked her why doesnt she just attends the gym location on the east side instead. she explains that the gym classes arent as well scheduled as the gym that we both go to. again, DEDICATION. if it was for me, FORGET ABOUT IT hahah. I would never commute back and forth like she does. thank goodness my gym is a 5min walk from work.

shes always been one of my sources of motivation, and an even greater one now!

Remember those who put more effort than you do. itll give you a booster to work just as hard as they do.

Happy Tuesday 🙂

“its so unfair”

thats what one of the gym regulars said to me last week.

“its so unfair. we work so hard coming here at least 4-5x a week just so we can eat a piece of cake or something. it really sucks!”

she couldnt have put it any better. she and I are regulars at the gym…gymrats really. we both attend the same spinning classes…going almost 4-5x a week. shes a bit more intense than I am..on Mondays she attends two back to back spinning classes. insane? I think so. she is however in a better physical condition than I am. nonetheless we strive to keep up with our calorie intakes per day…making sure the In doesnt exceed the Out.

Now I’m not ranting about how terrible the going to the gym is. to be honest, ever since I started becoming a regular 10months ago, I have witnessed the incredible changes that my body has gone through. stepping on the scale doesnt justify the change since ive
